The game
What is Scrutix?
A word search game for Android with large letters. Find the hidden words of the list in a grid of 8×8, 12×12 or 15×15 letters. See How to play word search.
Who is it for?
For anyone who likes word searches, and above all for people who see less well up close or whose fingers are less precise. Large letters, strong contrast, two ways to select a word, and nothing timed.
Is there a timer or a score?
No. There is no timer, no score, no lives and no streak. A grid ends only when every word is found. The home screen counts your completed grids, and that is all.
Can I make the letters bigger?
Yes. Text size, on the home screen, has four sizes, up to twice the normal size, and the grid grows with it. See Large print.
Why did I get a smaller grid than the one I chose?
Because the letters were too large for that grid on your screen. Scrutix serves a smaller grid rather than smaller squares, and says which one under the sizes. Lower the text size to get your grid back.
Can words be diagonal or backwards?
Only if you want. Diagonals and Backwards words, in Settings, are off at first.
Is Scrutix related to scrutix.com?
No. Scrutix the word search, by LudicCraft, is not related to the scrutix.com website. They only share a name.
Is there an iPhone version?
No. Scrutix is an Android game, for Android 7.0 and later.
Words and languages
Which languages does Scrutix have?
English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Czech, Danish, Icelandic, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak and Swedish, each with its own dictionary. See Fifteen languages.
I found a word that is not on the list. Why?
That should not happen: Scrutix checks the filler letters against a full dictionary, so they never spell a word of four letters or more. Shorter sequences, like "CAT" or "THE", can appear. See No ghost words.
Can the words be read aloud?
Yes, in One word at a time, if your phone has a voice for the word language. See One word at a time.
Is today's grid the same for everyone?
Today's grid is made from the date and the word language. Two players get the same grid when they also use the same direction settings and the same grid size.
Price, ads and privacy
Is Scrutix free?
Yes. Everything in the game is free. Ads pay for it, and a one-time purchase removes them (2.99 € in France; Google Play shows the price for your country). There is no subscription.
Does it work offline?
Yes. The dictionaries are inside the app, and every grid is made on the phone. See A word search that works offline.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no account and no sign-up. Your grids stay on your phone.
When do full-screen ads appear?
Now and then between two grids, after you close the end card. Never at launch, never during a grid, never after today's grid. See Ads and the purchase.
